YORKSHIRE made a solid start to their very important LV County Championship first division match against Kent at North Marine Road.
On a very humid and overcast morning Yorkshire skipper Darren Gough won the toss and elected to field.

This was a decision that would prove a very good one as the Tykes went about their business in style with the ball.

Robert Key’s was the firs
t wicket to go for Kent, he was caught by Gerard Brophy off the bowling of Deon Kruis for just seven.

Kruis was at it again shortly after when he claimed the wicket of number three Neil Dexter for four runs, Anthony McGrath making the catch.

Kent were struggling to get a grip of the game and at 106-5 looked in a real mess.

Only their number four Martin Van Jaarsveld was playing with any real menace and ended the innings with 107 from 149 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes before being trapped lbw off the bowling of McGrath.

Joe Denly scored 50 for Kent until he was trapped lbw by Yorkshire skipper Gough but other than these two not a single Kent batsman made it into double figures.

Gough, Kruis and Matthew Hoggard all helped themselved to two wickets apiece with McGrath, Adil Rashid and Naved all taking one each.

In reply Yorkshire got off to a slow start under openers Andrew Gale and former England captain Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan is in desperate need of some runs but made just 10 before being caught behind off the bowling of Robbie Joseph.

The same bowler then took the wicket of Gale, also for 10 runs, trapping him plumb lbw.

Yorkshire steadied the ship after that with McGrath, 23no, and Jacques Rudolph, 28no, at the close of play at North Marine Road with the Tykes handily placed on 85-2.
