The Teachers just failed to get among the points.
In the game of the night Ian Fleming lost out on a tense five-setter against Trinity’s Brian Pinning.
It was a great effort from Fleming who was making his debut for the Teachers.
Pinning
and Richard Copsey took all their rubbers and a doubles for the victors.
Nick Coombes, Paul Wilson and Fleming had single wins.
Scotshots 1 Scalby School A 9
Despite the scoreline this game had plenty of excitement and suspense.
Juliet Foote was unlucky to lose to Scalby’s Will Ouseland 6-11 in the final set.
Team-mate Fraser Topley won their only single but his game with Ben Watkinson could have went either way.
Scalby’s Matthew Whilde was easily man of the match. He did not drop a set and partnered Ouseland to a doubles success.
Watkinson was the other unbeaten player.
St Ives 5 Desperatum 5
A fighting display from St Ives earned them a share of the points.
Evergreen David Frost had too much guille to defeat Nigel Hird and Barry Milner but lost to a motivated Tony Brown in five sets.
Brown was foiled in winning his three by an inspired performance from Nigel Ives who defeated him in straight sets.
A brace from Ives and a single from Father Russell was cancelled out by a brace each from Brown and Hird plus a doubles together.
GSK 2 Quattro B 8
A good start to the season from Quattro B. Dan Barnes and Dave Stephenson stayed unbeaten.
Team-mate Jamie Gregory added a single and partnered Stephenson for a doubles win. Grace Douthwaite and Grace Blenkinsopp defeated Stephenson for the Girls only success.
Royal Mail 2 Rogues N Joshers 8
Plenty of effort from the Royal Mail but they could only muster two wins from their best player Stuart Robinson against experienced opponents.
Joshers’ Lester Smith was the difference as he turned in a confident display by not dropping a set in all his singles and he added a doubles win with Nick Read.
Dave Archer and Read each scored a brace for a four-point return for their team.
