Phoenix FC 5 (Rowley 2, james 2, Jennings)
West Pier Juniors 1
The impressive Phoenix side added the Specsavers Knockout Trophy to their League title and Specsavers Cup victory of the day before following a convincing win against a valiant Pier
team.
Brad Rowley and Jack James were the star men for Phoenix, grabbing two goals apiece, with a Callum Jennings strike completing the win.
Phoenix were dominant from the start and had forced the excellent Pier keeper into a number of saves before they took the lead on seven minutes when a corner was headed home.
The Pier goalie did his best to keep his team in the game pulling off further fine saves but he was powerless to prevent Phoenix taking a 2-0 half-time lead when a right-wing cross was coolly despatched into the net.
Phoenix effectively put the game beyond Pier’s grasp with two goals in the first three minutes of the second half.
Pier didn’t give up though and continued to try hard to get a goal back and they were rewarded by a momentary lapse of concentration by an otherwise sound Phoenix defence as a great break resulted in the forward slotting past the keeper.
Phoenix responded by pushing on and desperate defending from Pier only allowed Phoenix one more goal in the dying minutes.
A fine win by Phoenix but a brave performance from Pier.
