IT is a bad time for people to be absent from the squad, but that is the situation we are left with going into this weekend's Yorkshire League double-header.
Ashley Lyth is away playing for Whitby Town tomorrow against Harrogate Town, so he can’t play at Doncaster. Though he will be back in time to face Castleford in the home game on Sunday.

His brother Adam is obviously away because he is playing with Yorkshire, and we have to add the absence of Martin Laidler, through an ankle injury, to the list.

We do have players to come into the line-up though and we do have our wicketkeeper Sam Anderson back in the action.

Former Ampleforth player Tom Brommett, Charlie Gibson and Joe Padmoor will all step into the squad , we’ll have to take things from there.

I was looking at the table earlier this week and it does make good reading with us lying in second place.

Eight points in both of the weekend’s games would put us in a tremendous position, though that will not be an easy task.

Doncaster have slipped away a bit of late, but they are still a very difficult team to beat. Castleford are in mid-table, but the joy of the current Yorkshire League campaign is that anyone can beat anyone.

This is one of the most open seasons that I have played in. I’m sure it will go down to the wire, I just hope we’ll be there when the last overs are bowled.

We have been doing very well for saying how young our side is. If you look at the team we have out for tomorrow’s game, I am the oldest and I’m only 28.

Looking right the way through the club, we do have a great number of younger lads in each of the teams.

The youthful seconds team are holding their own in division A of the York Senior League.

They may be bottom of the table, but it is a decent level and they are recording a number of draws to keep them in tact with the sides above them.

The form of the third team is another thing we can look on proudly, as it means good things for the future.

We do have some very handy players in the thirds, such as Danny Wilson and Jake Finnegan, who, no doubt, will be taking their place in the seconds in the not too distant future.

The inclusion of David Byas into the coaching staff has been a huge plus. He has been attending games throughout the season, which is great for the younger lads, who are all keen to impress him.
