HUNMANBY BC's diminutive lady bowler Lisa Watson took several notable crown green scalps as she progressed to the final of her club's open singles merit competition before being narrowly beaten in the final.
A full field of 64 players took part in Sunday’s competition which was played on a good running green in excellent bowling weather.

The quarter-finals saw Lisa beat North Cliff’s formidable Derrick Swift 21-18, while Whitby’s Kevin Gates beat Bridlington Bay’s Dave Roscoe 21-16,

Dukes Park’s Alan Standing beat Mike Townend (Westgate) 21-18 and Geoff Watson (Whitby) beat Hunmanby’s Peter Thompson 21-16.

In the semi-finals Gates beat Standing 21-15 while Lisa beat the highly rated Geoff Watson 21-20.

Lisa lost 21-18 in the final against regular merit winner Gates.
