TWO unique bowls festivals are being held in Scarborough and Bridlington this week, starring some of Britain's top players at crown green and indoor bowling.
The 2008 Scarborough Bowls Festival is being staged at Scarborough Bowls Centre and on the adjoining greens, with the finals of crown green and indoor events scheduled for Friday.

This festival is unique in that it offers something for everyone -
with open events, events restricted to the over-50s, events for under-18s, and for bowlers in wheelchairs.

In addition to the serious bowling there is entertainment and fun events at the bowls centre each evening of the festival.

This year the festival is sponsored by Prestigious Retirement Villages for the over-55s.

The Bridlington Festival of Bowls is a crown green event being staged at Dukes Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with possible television coverage of the finals.

Some of the country’s top players have been invited and accepted - with an eye on prize-money totalling well over £10,000.

The 128-entry men’s main event has £2,000 for the winner and £750 for the runner-up, while the 64 lady competitors are chasing a £1,000 winner’s prize and £400 for the runner-up. A consolation has £300 and £150 as top prizes.

Spectators are welcome at both events - free at Scarborough but with an admission charge at Dukes Park.
