FORMER Boro midfielder Tyrone Thompson has signed for Blue Square Premier outfit Torquay United on a two-year deal.
Thompson, 25, made 46 appearances for Boro during Nick Henry’s time in charge. He then moved on to Halifax, before switching to Crawley at the beginning of last season, but he has now signed for the Seagulls.

Crawley assistant manager Paul Raynor said: “Tyrone had agreed a new deal. The kid went up north on holiday and as the majority of our retained players he was subjected to a number of offers, one of which was outstanding financially.

“Tyrone came back again, told us of that but said he would keep to his word and still put pen-to-paper. However, we felt that his heart was not completely set on signing for us so we told him perhaps it was best if he took the offer from Torquay.

“It’s a superb offer financially and we could not get anywhere near it, we all wish him every success.”

Crawley boss Steve Evans added: “He has been a super player for us and the fact he would have still signed speaks volumes for his character. We wish him luck and although he leaves here he will always be welcome back.”
