Woman left in 'pool of blood'

A WOMAN who assaulted her former partner leaving her lying "in a pool of blood" has been ordered to pay her victim £200 in compensation.

Trudi Phillips, who lived in North Marine Road when the offence took place on September 5, but has since moved to Caithness in Nort-hern Scotland, was also given a two-year community order with a supervision requirement and made the subject of a restraining order.

She had previously denied the allegations, but did not attend her trial and was convicted in her absence at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court.

Steve Ovenden, prosecuting, told the court that Phillips, who is now heavily pregnant, attacked her former partner outside the property in North Marine Road.

He said: “She began punching her in the face, and did so up to ten times. Her victim fell to the ground and banged her head on the gate.”

In a statement read to the court, the victim said after the incident: “I thought she was trying to kill me.”

Police were called and Phillips was arrested. Paramedics found that Phillips’ victim had a laceration on the back of her head and a bump on the front.

Nick Tubbs, mitigating, said his client maintained she was acting in self defence, and had not attended her trial because of the difficulties she had in travelling from Scotland whilst going through a difficult pregnancy.

He added: “The case has been fraught with all sorts of difficulties.

“She has not been able to put her defence and intends to appeal.

“My client doesn’t read terribly well. She has problems understanding what is going on around her and is very anxious to get back to Scotland as soon as possible.

“She has received a number of text messages which she believes are from the complainant.

“She now wants absolutely nothing to do with her and the distance that is now between them is something she is enormously relieved about.”
