Woman gives birth after being sent home by Scarborough Hospital - COMMENT ON THIS STORY
A YOUNG mum was forced to give birth at home without medical support after Scarborough Hospital turned her away – denying she was having a baby.
Nicola Craven, 25, started having contractions at 6.30am on Saturday.
Boyfriend Mark Williams rushed her to the hospital, where she was given tests and had a scan. But she was astonished when doctors told her that she wouldn't be having her child for a week and should go home.
The couple returned to their Falsgrave flat, where Nicola had the baby – a boy, named Tyreece – in her bedroom 20 minutes later.
"I was having the baby. I've had four children so I knew what was going on," Nicola told the Evening News. "I was really angry. I just couldn't understand why they were sending me home.
"Having the baby on my own was frightening, I was so scared of losing him. Everything was in a state. We've had to throw the mattress and bedding away."
After the baby's birth Mark, 24, called an ambulance, and a midwife examined Nicola and Tyreece at home.
"Even that took 15 minutes to arrive," Mark said. "I'm pretty disgusted at the way we were treated."
