Week of celebration of work of temps

SCARBOROUGH'S temporary workers are being celebrated next week.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation is holding the ninth annual National Temporary Work- ers' Week to highlight the contribution of temporary, interim and contract workers to the national, regional and local economies.

The week runs from Monday to Friday during which Castle Employment Agency, based in York Place, Scarborough, is holding a series of celebratory events.

Suzanne Burnett, managing director, said: "We will be holding our annual Bun Run where we visit as many of our temps while at work as we can and offer them a sticky bun to enjoy with their tea break.

"Also this year we are running a competition to find the most outstanding temp for 2009. We have asked our clients to nominate someone who has gone above and beyond expectations for whatever reason – it may be for their exemplary work or even making the best cup of tea.

"The winner will receive a meal voucher for two at Marmalades restaurant, Beiderbecke's and a certificate which will be presented to them at our annual temps barbecue held at our premises on Friday evening."

The firm placed 750 people in temporary assignments in the past 12 months.

Each week recruitment and staffing agencies across the UK place around 1.2 million workers in a wide range of jobs and assignments. The temporary market in the UK is worth 24 billion to GDP.
