Walking for whales

SEA Life Centre bosses have asked people to take part in a sponsored walk, aimed at saving the world's whales.

The walk, which sets off from the centre on Sunday, July 26, will help raise much-needed funds for the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society which is fighting to put an end to whaling.

Conservationists are angry at plans by Greenland and Iceland to resume whaling which would make Europe a bigger killer of whales than Japan.

"There is no humane way to kill a whale at sea. This is a barbaric indistry that has lready driven many whale species to the brink of extinction," said Scarborough spokeswoman Sharon Jarvis.

"We'd like everyone who feels as we do to support the Walk for Whales and help bring an end to the slaughter."

The Sea Life Centre is offering everyone who takes part free admission to enjoy its marine life displays at the end of the walk.

Further details and sponsorship forms are available from the WDCS Press Office on 07834 498277 or email press@wdcs.org
