'Vintage' DVD now on sale

A DVD featuring vintage footage of Scarborough, dating back more than 75 years, is now on sale.

The 26-minute film, called Scarborough Now and Then, costs 6.99 and is available to buy from the Evening News offices in Aberdeen Walk.

The vintage footage, which features such locations as the North Bay beach and the South Bay pool, was captured by Cyril Joseph Wilson, the late father-in-law of Snainton pensioner David Simpson.

Mr Simpson, 82, had stored the film in a chicken-house shed, where it remained for years until he was inspired to develop the project after seeing photographer Max Payne’s film of 1970s Scarborough, which was released last year.

The project was brought to life with the help of Mr Simpson’s friend, film-maker Terry Ladlow, of Hunmanby, who combined the material with new footage to make the DVD. The Evening News has organised mass production and distribution of the film, proceeds of which will go to St Catherine’s Hospice.
