The great bag pack to help the hospices
PEOPLE from across the country have been lacing up and jogging on in preparation for this month's Great North Run, but one man decided to take a break from the schedule and instead swap his trainers for carrier bags to help Scarborough shoppers and raise extra money for charity.
With the help of friends and family and donations from the public, local man Paul Stevenson, 24, raised a total of 420.07 through a bag pack morning held at Morrison's supermarket in Scarborough.
The money raised will be donated to the Help the Hospices charity along with further sponsorship received by Paul through taking part in the Great North Run, the world's biggest half marathon, on September 19.
Paul hopes that along with his preparatory training his previous six years experience in the army where he served as an infantry soldier on a number of tours will set him in good stead for the race.
He is now currently employed by Morrisons and is also employed as a youth worker at Filey Youth Centre.
Camilla Hardy, Paul's fiancee, also took part in the bag packing event. She said: "It was a good event, everybody seemed to enjoy themselves, everyone who came through the tills was friendly and seemed to be contributing. Thank you to the customers who donated very kindly to members of the team."
