Talks go on over Scarborough landfill site future

DISCUSSIONS over the future of Scarborough's landfill site at Seamer Carr should be completed within three months, it has been revealed.

In October it was reported that the Environment Agency was concerned about the risk of pollution from household waste seeping into the surrounding water system, leaking into the ground and into rivers and streams.

Yorwaste – the firm which operates the Seamer Carr landfill site off the A64 – had been operating the site without a Pollution Prevention Control permit since November 2005.

A Yorwaste spokesman said: "We are still in discussions with the Environment Agency over the future of the landfill site at Seamer Carr and we expect these discussions to be ongoing for another two to three months.

"Until the outcome of these discussions is known it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
