Success bubbles over for couple

A SCARBOROUGH spa company has topped off its most successful year to date by winning a national industry award.

Scarborough Spas, based in Wareham Road, Eastfield, has had its busiest year to date since Sean and June Spivey set up from scratch their hot tub importation and distribution service.

Working closely with their American suppliers, for which Scarborough Spas has sole northern importation rights, the company has developed a spa which has just won the What Spa? Magazine Best Buy 2009 Award.

Managing director Mr Spivey said: "Obviously we are highly delighted at this prestigious award which in turn is not only great news for our company but also once again good news for the town.

"We forecasted last September that this year and possibly next year were always going to be difficult for our sector.

"It was back then that we realised to be able to compete and to be successful we would need something different within the market place.

"Using our knowledge of the industry, gained over the last 10 years, and spending a lot of time with our manufacturers we developed a spa which is not only economical to run but also economical to build, which in turn drastically brought down cost to the consumer.

"Sunbelt Spas actually only allow one importer in the whole of the North of the UK and for them to continually choose Scarborough as their northern base speaks volumes of the town."

Mr Spivey said the award-winning Zanzibar spa proved so popular they actually sold out of the product during March this year.
