Space-age visit proved to be a star-studded event
PUPILS from three Scarborough primary schools enjoyed an out-of-this-world experience when they visited a star attraction.
Youngsters from Northstead School, Newby and Scalby School and Barrowcliff Junior School were treated to a trip into the Stardome – a huge display showing off the major constellations of the universe.
During the event, hosted by Scalby School, the pupils were given a talk by astronomer Martin Lunn, of York Museum, and their visit was part of a technology open day which also introduced the children to food technology, textiles and music.
Scalby School assistant headteacher Barry Evans said: "The children all really enjoyed it and were extremely enthusiastic towards taking an active part in finding out about space.
"We are extremely grateful to Mr Lunn, who gave a talk about stars and the main constellations before giving a slide show on the universe, the galaxy and meteors.
"The children learned a lot from it and also gained an overview of the technology available at the school too which was great."
