Sitwell evening a literary success
READINGS from Sir Osbert Sitwell's works were the highlight of a literary fringe event.
The session, 'At Home with the Sitwells', took place in the concert hall at Scarborough Library. Starting with the serving of 'Edwardian nibbles' - all cooked to authentic early 20th century recipes - it then progressed to readings from Sir Osbert Sitwell's 1945 autobiography, "Left Hand Right Hand!" and a series of excerpts from a Scarborough-based short story.
Sitwell Society secretary Jim Bantoft said: "It was an enjoyable evening, which we put on as a prelude to Scarborough Literature Festival's Long Weekend. About 30 people came along to enjoy the refreshments and readings. It was a positive step in the development of our society, which is open to all Sitwell enthusiasts. We'll be looking at ways that we can continue to link in with the main Literature Festival in future years."
The readings were led by Mr Bantoft, and Felix Hodcroft and Rosie Larner of the Scarborough Poetry Workshop.
