SIEGE IS OVER: Latest from the Eastfield siege

Scarborough's armed police siege is over.

Paul Eames, 32, was led from his Herdborough Road home at 2.42pm this afternoon - 20 minutes after the freeing of his six-year-old hostage.

There were loud cheers from the assembled crowd as the Doncaster man was escorted from the house, surrounded by police.

The two-day siege started at 11pm on Monday after being triggered by a domestic incident.

Earlier today Eames' parents, Margaret and David Eames, made a tearful plea for him to end the siege peacefully.

At one point during the stand-off, neighbours heard Eames say "I'm going to die tonight" to police officers.
