Shock at nursery sudden closure - COMMENT ON THIS STORY
PARENTS and staff have been left in shock after the sudden closure of a Scarborough nursery.
Buttercups Day Nursery, which has premises in Nelson Street and Cambridge Street, has closed after the owner, Dianne Norman, went bankrupt.
The nursery and its out-of-school club, called Galleons, had around 70 children on its books, from babies up to the age of 11.
Sixteen members of staff have lost their jobs and scores of parents have been left searching for alternative childcare at short notice.
Amanda Campbell, who was manager at the Nelson Street site, said: "It's been such a shock, but we know there are plenty of people out there losing their jobs as well.
"It's awful. Everyone is having to look for work along with dealing with what's happened. We didn't even have chance to say goodbye to all the parents and children."
Another parent contacted the Evening News to say: "All the girls there have done a fab job and also only got told at the same time.
"It's all just one big shock."
