Sexual health issues in spotlight

TO coincide with Contraceptive Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday, young people in Scarborough are being encouraged to carry and use condoms.

NHS North Yorkshire and York is reminding people that condoms are available free of charge on the NHS and can be obtained from GP surgeries, sexual health clinics and genitourinary (GUM) clinics.

The trust is also currently promoting testing for chlamydia – the area's most prevalent sexually transmitted infection.

In 2008/9, nearly 16,000 people aged 15 to 24 were tested in North Yorkshire with one in 12 testing positive.

You can find out about all sexual health services from Sexual Health Direct, run by the Family Planning Association, by calling 0845 122 8690 or visiting www.fpa. org.uk
