Sex-trial teacher still in hospital after allegedly taking overdose

A FORMER Scarborough teacher is still being treated in a London Hospital after collapsing just hours before he was due to stand trial accused of a string of child sex assault charges.

Stephen Douglas-Hogg, 49, of Filey, was taken to hospital on Monday, after it is believed he took an overdose of paracetamol tablets.

He was said to be "fighting for his life" and is still being treated in hospital today.

Mr Douglas-Hogg was a teacher at Raincliffe School, Scarborough.

However he was suspended at the end of 2006 when North Yorkshire County Council was notified about the criminal charges against him.

He was due to appear at Southwark Crown Court just hours after he collapsed in his hotel room.

He is accused of 17 charges of indecently assaulting five boys aged under 14.

The offences are alleged to have taken place during the 1980s at St Paul's Cathedral School in London.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire County Council said no children from North Yorkshire were involved.

The hearing was adjourned for mention at the same court on October 16.
