Sex assault as woman's boyfriend slept nearby
A SCARBOROUGH man who sexually assaulted a woman while her father and boyfriend slept in the same room has been jailed for four years.
Adam Gill, 27, of Trafalgar Square, was sentenced at York Crown Court after admitting two charges of sexual assault.
The court heard that when Gill first accosted the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, she was so drunk she could hardly walk or talk.
Police officers, tipped off by a CCTV operator who witnessed the incident, intervened and took the woman back to her parents' home, unfortunately disclosing the address while Gill was present.
He later entered the unlocked house and began to undress her as she lay unconscious on a sofa, with her father and boyfriend asleep in the room.
Prosecuting, Felicity Davies said that as the two men woke to see the assault taking place, Gill resisted their attempts to get him out of the house so ferociously he bit the boyfriend's thumb hard enough to break a bone.
Miss Davies said the woman, who did not know Gill, had been refused entry to a Scarborough nightclub on the night of the incident in August last year because of her drunken state.
As she staggered through the street alone in the early hours of the morning, he was spotted on camera initially appearing to try to help her, but was then seen assaulting her.
Miss Davies said that Gill spotted the CCTV camera and took the woman around the corner to continue his assault, unaware he was being recorded on a different camera.
Police approached and discussed taking her back to her parents' home.
Once at the house the woman was laid unconscious on a sofa while her father and boyfriend decided to stay with her in case she became ill through the night.
But they fell asleep and several hours later Gill entered the house and assaulted her before the men woke. They attacked him in the belief he was about to rape her.
Simon Revell, mitigating, said Gill, who has no previous sexual offences to his name, had acted in a "bizarre" manner after drinking eight pints and taking two other substances that night.
Gill was jailed for four years and placed under a sexual offences prevention order barring him from contacting his victim for the next 10 years. He must also sign on to the sex offenders' register for life.
