School pupils check out the cute chicks

SPRING certainly sprung for youngsters at a Scarborough school after they were visited by some chicks.

The children from Seamer and Irton School enjoyed an egg-cellent day after spending some time with the chickens who are being cared for by pupil Lucy Starling.

The 11-year-old picked up the two chicks, which are prize-winning White Rosecomb bantams, from a Cayton pet food shop and looked after them in an incubator at home before they hatched.

She said: “They are going to grow to be a small white bird with bright red comb and wattle, and we have also had some Maran hens hatch too.

“We keep a dozen chickens at home and my dad looks after them for me while I am at school,” she added.
