Scarborough landlord Mick is on Tap with his fourth pub
THERE'S a new face behind the pumps of Falsgrave pub the Tap and Spile.
Mick Mancrief, who also runs the Turk's Head, the Waterhouse and The Ship, reopens the pub today at 7pm.
The Tap closed its doors last month, with the previous landlord, Matt Coulson, blaming a drop in custom as a result of the smoking ban. Mr Coulson also closed the New Tavern opposite, for which he also held the lease.
However, Mr Mancrief is optimistic about the future. He told the Evening News: "I just want to continue the good work of the previous two landlords – the Tap's always been a good popular pub and we want to see that continue."
A sum of between 5,000 and 10,000 is being spent on renovations to the pub, including a new paint job and revarnishing, and Mr Mancrief also plans to develop the beer garden.
Peter O'Toole, currently of The Ship, will manage the pub.
Music is also high on the agenda. "We plan to continue the live bands on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons," said Mr Mancrief.
"Any bands who've played here in the past are welcome to pop in and have a chat and we'll see what we can do about giving them a gig."
The Tom Townsend Band are the first to play at the re-opened pub, with their gig starting at 8.30pm on Friday.
