Scarborough Hospital wards closed down
THREE wards at Scarbo-rough Hospital have been closed following an outbreak of a sickness bug.
Graham ward, Oak ward and the stroke unit have been affected and norovirus has been confirmed on Graham ward, with tests still being carried out on the other two.
The wards have around 70 beds in total and it has been confirmed that nine patients on Graham ward, two on Oak ward and six on the stroke unit have been affected.
It is thought that this outbreak at Scarborough has been brought into the hospital from the local community, possibly from a visitor.
Visitors are still allowed on the wards but strict hand hygiene procedures are in force.
Norovirus, also known as winter vomiting disease, is the most common cause of infectious gastroenteritis in the UK affecting between 600,000 and one million people each year.
