'Royal' visitor is king for a day
HISTORY was brought to life when Henry VIII visited a Scarborough school.
Children at Seamer and Irton School enjoyed special a Tudor day with Henry VIII “look-a-like” Ray Irvine who set up a series of workshops.
Mr Irvine, who was in character all day, spent time with the school’s 200 youngsters who dressed up and took part in such workshops as brass rubbing, writing sessions using quills, Tudor dancing and eagle owl making.
Headteacher Jonathan Wanless said: “It was a fantastic day and Mr Irvine looked uncannily like Henry VIII. He was in the role all day and his knowledge of Henry VIII was encyclopedic.”
He added: “The children enjoyed dressing up and asked Mr Irvine a lot of questions. They are studying the Tudors at the moment so it fitted in nicely with their school work.
“At the end of the day he went outside to talk to the parents as well and the children had their pictures taken with him. It was a great day and very educational.”
