Ride of your life at Flamingo Land, and that's no mumbo jumbo!

CONSTRUCTION has started at Flamingo Land, near Malton, on the steepest rollercoaster ever built.

The ride, called Mumbo Jumbo, will feature the most extreme drop in rollercoaster history, plunging thrill-seekers down an incline of 112 degrees from a high point of 30 metres – about 100ft.

Passengers will be pulling in excess of 4Gs – or four times the force of gravity – not too far off the G-levels experienced by fast-jet pilots.

Costing over 4 million, the ride will be opened by Guinness World Records in July, when it is expected the world-record-breaking achievement by Flamingo Land will be officially recognised.

Andrea Banfi, of Guinness World Records, said: "We will be in attendance at the opening of Flamingo Land's new rollercoaster and look forward to this new Guinness World Records record in the "Steepest Rollercoaster Made from Steel" category."

Revealing the story behind the name Mumbo Jumbo, Flamingo Land boss Gordon Gibb said: "It's meant to be a tongue-in-cheek description of the way other theme parks boast about their new rides and attractions.

"We're not talking mumbo jumbo – our new rollercoaster is definitely the real deal!"

Visitors to the park can now see what will be Flamingo Land's eighth rollercoaster taking shape.

Flamingo Land is the UK's only combined theme park, zoo and holiday village. Last year it was the region's most popular paid-for attraction, drawing almost 1.5 million visitors.
