Regional award for Scarborough Civic Society
A WEEK of events organised by Scarborough's Civic Society has led to the organisation scooping a regional award.
This summer, the Scarborough and District Civic Society took part in the second annual Civic Societies Week, which saw almost 30 societies from across Yorkshire and the Humber take part by hosting activities, displays and events and running campaigns.
As part of the event Scarborough's society staged four events: A history of South Cliff Gardens, a guided walk of South Cliff Gardens, a Harry W Smith exhibition and a Sitwell exhibition.
The week was co-ordinated by the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies, which was established in 1999 to support and promote the work of the region's societies and represent them at a regional level.
Members of the Yorkshire and Humber Association's committee judged this year's Civic Society Week events for a competition, which ran in conjunction with the dedicated week.
The results were announced at a recent members' meeting, during which Scarborough and District Civic Society was declared the winner of the 250 cash prize and the Peter Spawforth Trophy.
The Scarborough society has thanked everyone who made their week so successful, in particular Austen Sleightholme, Val Smith, Christine Hepworth, Jim Bantoft, Keith Johnston and Anne and Paul Bayliss.
