Pupils take on fun activities in Euro day
PUPILS at Bramcote School took part in a variety of activities to celebrate European Day of Languages.
The children started the celebrations with an assembly which included a drama presentation about the diversity of languages across the world.
They also sang a Spanish song and The Lord’s Prayer in Russian.
Pupils divided into small groups for a series of cross-curricular sessions to find out about Spanish culture from their geography, history and science teachers. They also attended an intensive language lesson to learn how to talk about themselves in Spanish.
Ian Williams, head of modern languages, said: “It was great to see the children trying out a different language. Spanish proved a popular choice because we often have Spanish children attending the school and everybody really wants to be able to say a few words to them in their native Spanish.
“Spain is also a popular holiday destination for many English families. The delicious chicken basque and Spanish fruit tart which we had for lunch really helped to make the day special.
“Unfortunately the weather outside was typically British.”
European Day of Languages was started in 2001. It aims to encourage people in the 47 member states of the council of Europe to learn more languages.
