Pupils' fundraising efforts add up to £2,500 for charity
CLEVER pupils at a Scarborough school put their brains into gear and raised more than £2,500 for a national charity.
The youngsters from Seamer and Irton Primary School took part in a sponsored maths test and colouring competition to raise 2,541 for the NSPCC, leaving headteacher Jonathan Wanless delighted.
He said: "We always choose a charity to support each year and the student council have been doing all sorts of fundraising events.
"One of the main things was a maths test for the older pupils with parents sponsoring their children for how many questions they got right, and the infants also took part in a colouring competition where they produced a collage of a fish.
"We deliberately kept it low key for parents as it came straight after Christmas, but the children really got into it and their efforts exceeded all expectations.
"The amount we raised is testament to the generosity of the parents and children and we were told by Sarah Tarpey from the charity that the money will pay for the training of two telephone operators, which has made it more tangible for the students."
