Public meeting over Manor Road Nursery
THERE will be a public meeting tomorrow to discuss the proposed sale of Manor Road Nursery and placing the supply of plants to Scarborough Council in the hands of a private company.
It has been organised by members of the Friends of Manor Road group and will be from 2pm at St James’ Church Hall.
The proposal is due to be discussed at Friday’s meeting of Scarborough Council but the matter has been called in for further investigation by Cllr Peter Popple.
According to minutes from last Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting it has been proposed that the council should enter into an agreement with York-based Aldby Field Nurseries Ltd for the supply of plants in a deal worth up to £500,000 over a four-year period.
Councillors have also recommended that the disposal of the Manor Road Nursery site should be supported by further advice from officers.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:03 AMI hear its going to be used to house a secure IPad server , or is this York based company owned by Pindars? Maybe Benchmark have their eye on it? Possibly Apollo leisure moving into the gardening business. Anything is possible with this outfit really, so so secretive, so so incompetent and all with their heads so far up their backsides only their feet are visible!

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 07:34 AMThat's it SBC. Get rid of one of the few of your departments of which we can be proud. The land is clearly earmarked for something, but you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be to the benefit of the community.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 03:29 AMPity. But as we learned from the previous call-in about the Sands' Freehold giveaway, a call-in from Cllr Peter Popple is as effective as a chocolate fireguard. Though at least we are grateful he's back looking after you since getting sacked as Whitby Harbour chairman, after not looking after our piers and lighthouses, another which is about to be closed due to not being maintained.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 05:27 PMTesco is still not sorted they still have to get permission to close Trafalgar Street West, I believe there is a meeting planned on Tues 21st Feb 7.00 st Columbus Church hall. Coming back to back manor Road, this is another short sighted idea by our council, this department does a lot for our town , we need this to remain the council should throw this idea out

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 04:25 PMYou can guarantee that the council have a secret agemda for the site - and it won't be for the benefit of the people of Scarborough. Perhaps there should be a park and ride for the new Tesco on Dean Road. It might stop the increase to the already ridiculous amount of traffic on Manor Road across the old railway bridge which will become stratospheric when the new Tesco is built. Incidentally, we haven't heard anything about that recently. What's the current situation SEN? Give us some real news for a change.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 01:37 PM....lets turn it back into a play area as it used to be; for younger children it would be a far more secure environment then the "tip" further down the road....
