Pride in the Park!

MORE than 100 people attended the first Gay Pride event in Scarborough at Peasholm Park yesterday.

The event was organised by Gay Scarborough and could now be an annual celebration.

The sun was shining for the free event which was attended by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and included a picnic.

Christine Mark, chairman of the Friends of Peasholm Park group and committee member of Gay Scarborough, said: "This is the first time this event has been held for a long time. I am really pleased with how it has gone. We had people travelling from quite far to join us and then there were a lot of locals as well. We did not know what to expect at all. We hope to do this every year now with each one getting bigger and better.

"The Friends of Peasholm Park were delighted to offer the park as a location for the event."
