Porpoises' deaths 'not foul play'

POLICE have ruled out foul play in the deaths of three porpoises washed up along the coastline.

The first mammal was found near Bridlington’s Spa Theatre with a wound to the right side of its head.

Within four days, two more bodies of porpoises were found in the area – one at Fraisthorpe and another at Sewerby.

Tests later revealed that the first mammal died as the result of being accidentally caught in nets while the other two died of starvation.

Sgt Chris Hine, Humberside Police’s Wildlife Crime Officer, said: “I am pleased that the mammals didn’t die as a result of malicious action taken against them. However, two of them did die of starvation which is a concern.”
