Pindar Graphics form Green Team to tackle environment issues

SCARBOROUGH based printing firm Pindar Graphics has announced the formation of a dedicated Green Team to drive its five year "Respect the Planet" environmental strategy across all facets of the business.

The firm has appointed nine on-site environmental champions, at its six sites across the UK including Scarborough.

Tewkesbury based Pinder boss Mark Smith is heading up the initative. He said: "My remit is to minimise waste, promote recycling, reduce energy consumption and harmful emissions and where possible, work with suppliers who themselves have sound environmental policies.

At Tewkesbury alone we've managed to reduce the volume of waste going to landfill from the factory by 50 per cent over the past few years."

"Printers have a duty of care to show their environmental conscience to customers and I will be working closely with all our site champions to ensure the business makes further strides to reduce its impact on the environment."

Andrew Dalton, Pindar Group chief executive officer, said: "One of our priorities for the business is to have all our sites meeting the set standards. Tewkesbury and Aylesbury already have the standard and can share useful insights and best practice.

"By setting up a dedicated Green Team across our UK operations we are committed to playing an increasingly prominent role in helping to create a more sustainable environment for the future."

Pindar Graphics has already achieved key environmental accreditation from the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) in recognition that the paper used at the company's sites originates from sustainable and eco-friendly sources. Pindar has also acquired the approval of the 'Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification' (PEFC) at its sites in Scraborough, Preston and Tewkesbury.
