New plea to Claudia 'mystery' boyfriend

DETECTIVES involved in the search for Malton chef Claudia Lawrence have appealed for a mystery boyfriend to contact them.

The appeal was made by Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway, the officer leading the investigation, on the first anniversary of the 36 year old’s disappearance.

New information was received on the eve of the anniversary when a witness called the incident room to report a conversation with Claudia on March 17 last year where Claudia referred to having been out until 4.30am with a boyfriend.

Det Supt Galloway said: “We are appealing for the person who was with Claudia on the night of March 16 to 17 to contact us as they could have vital information which could help our investigation.”

He reminded people that Miss Lawrence went missing during the week after the 2009 Cheltenham Festival and it was two days after St Patrick's Day and, for students at York University, it was the lead up to the Easter break.

He asked people to cast their minds back to this time last year and to try and remember what they were doing, where they were and to contact police with any information which could help the investigation.

"We know there are still people out there who have information but for whatever reason have not yet come forward,” he said. “We appeal directly to them to contact us now. Don't worry about the fact you believe your information may not be important, let us be the judge of that, contact us now and tell us what you know.”

Anyone with any information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
