Mayoress' fund flagged up at Proms
MUSIC lovers raised £84 for the Mayoress' fund at the Last Night of the Proms Concert.
More than 500 people were at the Spa concert on Saturday with staff selling Union Jack flags and collecting money for the fund, which is run this year by current mayor Cllr Janet Jefferson, who was at the concert.
She said: “It was so nice that the Spa was raising money for the fund and it looked like a lot of people were buying the flags.”
The Mayoress’ Community Fund is normally run by the mayor’s wife.
However, as Scarborough has a female mayor this year, Cllr Jefferson is taking the lead.
She said: “Last year the fund raised 16,500 which is fantastic. The money is split between chosen local charities at the end of the year.
“It would be lovely to raise a similar amount this year and we have plenty of fundraising events coming up including a fashion show and a barn dance to help raise more money for the fund.”
The Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band, from Catterick, performed at the Spa Grand Hall for the Last Night of the Proms Concert. The band of 30 musicians played military music and dressed in a smart military uniform.
