A SCARBOROUGH man has appeared in court charged with stealing two bottles of Jack Daniels whisky, worth £30, from Tesco, in Westwood.

Damian John Hunter, 25, of Westbourne Grove, admitted stealing the items on December 14.

The defendant was seen on CCTV to enter the store at 5.28am, pick up the two bottles of whisky and leave without paying.

Kathryn Reeve, prosecuting, said Hunter made admissions during interview.

Marcus Topham, mitigating, told the court: “There was no sophistication about it. He just put the bottles into his jacket and walked out.”

He added that his client had recently come out of prison and was now trying to turn his life around.

Hunter was given a six-month conditional discharge, was ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 compensation.
