Lottery boost for community garden
The Edgehill Community Association in Scarborough is celebrating after it secured £41,541 from the Big Lottery Fund's "Community Spaces" programme to transform a derelict strip of land.
A new community garden will take shape between Falsgrave Community Resource Centre and the Oakapple housing development.
The garden will incorporate a landscaping scheme, a decorative walkway through a planting scheme of low-level shrubs and trees and a tranquil seating area which will surround a circular mosaic style piece of artwork.
Colin Barnes, chairman of Edgehill Community Association, said he wanted to thank Kerry Lee, Scarborough Borough Council's Neighbourhood Regeneration Officer, for her work in obtaining the funding.
Mr Barnes said: "The garden is the culmination of a lot of very hard work particularly by Kerry Lee and represents a determination by Edgehill residents, working in partnership, to show a positive public face of the revamped estate."
Work on the garden is due to begin in the next few weeks and be completed by September. A launch event will be held to celebrate the opening of the garden which the local community will be invited to.
Community groups looking to secure funds to create or improve green and open spaces may well be eligible to apply for a Community Spaces grant. Further information is available at www.community-spaces.org.uk
