Little Emma loses her fight for life
EMMA Harrison, the Allerston youngster with a rare genetic disorder, has lost her fight for life just days before her first birthday.
Her parents Sarah, 28, and Paul, 31, who also have a four-year-old son called Charles, had organised a big charity fundraising event at the Cayley Arms which will still go ahead tomorrow night.
Emma, who would have turned one today, was taken into Scarborough Hospital early on Sunday morning and her condition failed to improve on Monday. She died shortly before 2.30am on Tuesday with her parents at her bedside.
Mrs Harrison said: “She was a little fighter right till the end.
“We now want the event on Saturday to be a celebration of Emma’s life – we don’t want it to be a morbid occasion.”
Her husband Paul added: “We just want to raise as much money as possible on Saturday night. We’ve had lots of support from family and friends.”
The little girl had a disorder which is present in fewer than 100,000 births, the Miller-Dieker Syndrome form of Lissencephaly, and also had a hole in her heart, feeding problems and epilepsy.
She had exceeded her life expectancy of just three months old, and her parents had been told she would never be able to walk, talk, sit up, roll over or hold up her head.
Mr and Mrs Harrison have received donations of items for the charity auction from Scarborough, Ryedale and York. Proceeds will go to the Great North Air Ambulance and Scarborough Hospital’s children’s ward, as thanks for the care and support given to Emma and her family.
Emma will be buried at the churchyard at Allerston where Mrs Harrison’s mother is also buried.
