Library talk by Egypt expert
A LEADING Egyptologist is to give an illustrated talk at Scarborough Library on Saturday.
The Friends of Scarborough Library has lined up Dr Joann Fletcher to give the talk, Ancient Egypt in Yorkshire, in the Vernon Road library’s Concert Room.
She will cover subjects such as how ancient Egyptian culture first arrived in Yorkshire, the collections of artefacts to be found in some Yorkshire museums and the work of early Egyptologist Alice Holliday, of Scarborough.
Dr Fletcher, who lives in Scarborough, is arts and honorary research fellow and tutor at the University of York, where she is a member of its Mummy Research Group and oversees Egyptology at museums in Harrogate.
Recently she completed filming a new series about mummies from Egypt and South America for the History Channel and has written a new book, Cleopatra the Great.
Colin Langford, chairman of Friends of Scarborough Library, said: “Joann Fletcher has contributed much to understanding various aspects and discoveries of Egyptology and her talk is eagerly awaited.”
The talk starts at 11.15am.
