Latest talks in series of alternative therapies

HYPNOTHERAPY is the next topic in a series of popular talks about complementary medicine.

It is the second of a campaign which aims to raise awareness among the general public and health professionals about the breadth and variety of therapies available to people in Scarborough.

The talks at Scarborough Enterprise Agency in Auborough Street on Thursday, and Hoving-ham Village Hall, Ryedale, on Wednesday are being given by hypnotherapy practitioner Maggie Wolstenholme.

There will be a token charge to cover the costs of the refreshments and room hire. Speakers come from a variety of therapeutic backgrounds and the emphasis of the programme is on informality and exchange. The speakers will talk about their work and experiences and the audience will be encouraged to ask questions and share their views.

The series of talks was launched by Veronica Murray, UKCP registered psychotherapist.

The talks are being held in Hovingham on the first Wednesday of every month and Scarborough on the first Thursday of every month from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Ms Murray said: "While their purpose is to introduce the general public to the wide range of therapies available today as well as inform people about the training, registration and practice of each, the programme is also intended to attract other professionals and trainees in health care professions in order to build up a supportive network and possibly even a future directory of alternative therapies covering the area of Ryedale."

The campaign, organised under the banner of KREAtherapy, promotes the services of practitioners who are qualified, registered and insured, and advanced trainees who are recommended by their training establishments as their work is covered by a Code of Ethics and best practice guidelines, a commitment to Continued Professional Development (CPD) and regular supervision.

She added: "I'd be really pleased to hear from anyone interested in participating in this programme, either as a speaker or as a member of the audience, and from practitioners who would like to be part of a directory and guide for alternative therapies in the area."
