Jeannie hopes her wishes come true
A SCARBOROUGH checkout operator and author hopes the tills will be ringing for her first published book.
Jeannie Coppen, 48, who works at Proudfoots in Seamer, has released romantic novel True Love.
The book is being sold at the three Scarborough branches of the supermarket chain in Seamer, Eastfield and Newby and on the internet.
Mrs Coppen said: “I’m pleased with the achievement. There’s a little bit of trepidation because I’m hoping the book will sell well and be a success.
“There are a couple of people who have been in the store and said they’ve enjoyed reading it. They’ve found it easy reading and a pleasant story which is what I wanted to portray. One lady said she had heard other people talking about it on the street.”
The plot focuses on one woman’s plight of searching for love with themes of fidelity, destiny and death.
Mrs Coppen, of Limestone Way in Burniston, wrote the story about 16 years ago but put the manuscript away in a drawer and left it there for 15 years.
She said: “When I was a child I used to like writing stories. In my late 20s my mother-in-law sent me a Danielle Steel book, Perfect Stranger, and it just prompted me to have a go at writing.
Her husband Syd, 73, and daughter Joy, 19, paid to have the grammar checked on the manuscript as a birthday present and persuaded her to send it to a publisher.
Last year she sent the work to Hallmark Press International, which was keen to publish it.
Mrs Coppen has now written another book, Berkeley Manor, which also has a romantic theme but she is waiting to see what happens with True Love before she does anything with it.
She said: “I’m hoping to follow the same line and see if it’s good enough to publish. I would like to release a collection of easy reading romantic novels. I would like to thank the Proudfoot company for giving me the opportunity to sell the books in the stores.”
