Increase in charges for cremations and burials
CHARGES for cremations and burials are set to go up by three per cent under plans drawn up by Scarborough Council.
But the cost to buy an exclusive rights to burial within a grave for 100 years is due to shoot up by 15 per cent.Officials says the increases are in line with the local authority’s approved budget strategy.
There are nearly 80 different levels of charging.
Some of the charges depend on whether they involve cremation, burial, the times when funerals take place, the use of the service chapel and scattering the remains and whether the remains are those of a child or adult.
Charges are also in place for those wanting memorial trees, roses or shrubs to be planted.
A memorial tree with a plaque to be maintained for 10 years, for example, will cost 313 in future compared with 304 now.
A cremation for an adult will go up from 426 to 439.
Interment in a grave for which an exclusive right has not been granted will go up from 519 for an adult to 534.
Several different charges apply for a grave where exclusive rights will be given for 100 years and these will vary from 217 (for cremated remains) compared with 189 now and from 159 to 421 compared with 129 and 366 now depending on the depth of a body’s interment.
