Hospice's service to remember a loved one

ST Catherine's Hospice is helping people to "Light up a Life" this Christmas.

It's annual service, when people sponsor Christmas tree lights in memory of a loved one, will take place at the Town Hall gardens at 6pm on Thursday December 3.

Lady Heather Ayckbourn will perform the official switch-on ceremony and a short service will follow.

The service will be conducted by hospice trustee Ann Wyatt and the Rev Kathryn Jackson, hospice chaplain, will bless the tree.

Music will be provided by Simply Brass and the harmony group Raven will sing carols with pupils from Hinderwell Primary School.

Scarborough's mayor, Cllr Bill Chatt, and his consort Michelle will attend.

The 20ft tree, which is decorated with 2,000 lights, was organised by Scarborough Council.

Names of all those who have been remembered are entered into a Book of Memories, which will be available for viewing on the evening and then at the hospice reception until January 4.

After the service everyone is invited to Emma's Coffee Lounge in Huntriss Row for coffee and mince pies.
