Hoggart and Nash are headline acts

FOR an hour Simon Hoggart entertained an audience in The Royal Hotel's ballroom with his witty and revealing anecdotes.

Joined by Yorkshire based poet James Nash, the pair read through the Sunday papers and took a humourous look at the headlines.

The audience had already enjoyed coffee and croissants and they virtually filled the ballroom to listen to the pair's quips about the national news and political landscape.

The figures Simon poked fun at included John Prescott, Margaret Thatcher, Gordon Brown, William Hague and George Bush.

He also read from some of his work which featured more of John Prescott and a run through of a Conservative campaign visit by Margaret Thatcher, which had the audience in hysterics.

He displayed his extraordinary storytelling abilities as he zipped through his tales at lightening pace occasionally stopping to pick out his favourite stories in the papers.

The dutiful James Nash even put his poetry reading on hold so the audience could delight further in Simon looking at the papers, which would prompt another anecdote from the sketch writer.

After Simon finished, he signed books for his fans while James read from his funny and at times deeply touching poetry.
