Heritage days attract 3,000
THE hidden gems of Scarbor-ough proved a real draw in the town's Heritage Open Days after more than 3,000 people took part in the scheme.
The event was designed to give local people the chance to experience the architectural, historical and cultural heritage of the town for free and opened the doors to numerous buildings in Scarborough which are normally closed or charge admission.
Some of the attractions proving popular included the Freemasons' Lodge, in St Nicholas Cliff, Scarborough Castle and the Rotunda – the William Smith Museum.
Bonuses for visitors ranged from a free sample from the Ice Cream Factory at the Harbour Bar, in Sandside, to having their photograph taken in an engine at North Bay Railway.
The Heritage Open Days were organised by Scarbor-ough & District Civic Society, Scarborough Archaeological & Historical Society and Scar-borough Museums Trust.
