Having a song and dance with work of composers

PUPILS from Gladstone Road infants School have been learning about endangered species by listening to music and dancing.

Class teacher Ann Marr says Saint-Sans' Carnival of the Animals and Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumble Bee were just two of the pieces the children heard as part of the project.

She said: "We were thinking about endangered species and conservation – not just in other countries but here as well.

"So as well as talking about elephants, bears and turtles we're speaking about bees and tortoises.

"Animals have provided the inspiration for some wonderful pieces of music.

"As well as the classical, we listened to music from Walt Disney's The Jungle Book including The Bear Necessities, The Elephants' Patrol and the snake song Trust in Me.

"The children have really enjoyed themselves learning about conservation in this way," she added.
