Have your say on Mere and Mount - COMMENT ON THIS STORY
RESIDENTS are being urged to put forward their views about the future of the Mere and Oliver's Mount.
Scarborough Council, together with consultants TEP, has organised two consultation events where the public can examine three proposed masterplans for the area and ask questions.
The options include a multi-million pound equestrian centre, boasting a riding school and a hotel; an extreme sports centre; and a nature area with community woodland and meadows.
Residents are being asked to decide which of they options they feel would bring most benefits to the area.
Cllr Derek Bastiman, Scarborough Council portfolio holder for regeneration, strategic planning and community development, said: "The consultation events will provide the ideal opportunity for residents to give their views on the proposed options put forward by the consultants.
"It is very important for residents to come along to the consultation events and find out more about the proposals.
"The input of residents will be extremely valuable and will feed into the overall masterplan for the Mere and Oliver's Mount."
He added: "The consultants and officers from Scarbor-ough Council will be in attendance at the consultations and will be able to provide more information and answer any questions."
The equestrian centre and riding school would include stables and space for dressage arenas, show jumping rings, cross country courses, parking and trade stand area which would provide suitable space to hold British Eventing Board events.
A hotel would also be situated on the site which council officers say would "expand the existing farm buildings in a sensitive way to create a prominent landmark building located within formal landscaped gardens".
The hotel would serve the equestrian centre during events as well as providing high quality accommodation for Scarborough.
The option for community woodland with extreme sports would see the focus switch to outdoor pursuits.
The facilities would also include a large area dedicated to commercial leisure attractions.
The final possible development would be a "naturalistic space" largely consisting of community woodland and meadows.
The two meetings where all of the options will be explored are at the Falsgrave Comm-unity Resource Centre on Wednesday between 2pm and 7.30pm and Eastfield Community Centre on Thursday between 3pm and 7pm.
