Gym works out way to success
A SCARBOROUGH gym is hoping for national glory after being nominated for a competition to find the country's best local business.
Compass Health and Fitness, in Barry's Lane, has made it through to the first round of Britain's Best Local Business a national competition run by Barclays and backed by The Sun newspaper.
The competition gives members of the public the chance to nominate their favourite local business, with the winning business receiving 20,000 and a mentoring session with Theo Paphitis from the popular BBC television series Dragons Den.
Nick Ingham, who owns Compass with his wife Christine, said: "We are delighted that one of our customers has nominated us in this competition.
"We strive continuously to provide a professional, friendly and affordable service that meets our members expectations both in terms of service and value for money and it is encouraging that someone has recognised this."
The next round will see the nominations dwindled down to regional winners who will receive 5,000 each, before a final winner is chosen.
Despite tough competition Mr Ingham remains optimistic.
He said: "Although we have a long way to go in this competition I truly believe that we offer a good product and service and that we stand a good chance of progressing much further.
"Disappointingly there have been very few nominations in Scarborough considering the quality of business that we have in the area."
