Group sets wheels in motion for volunteers

SCARBOROUGH DIAL a Ride is on the lookout for more volunteer drivers.

The charity, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, provides accessible door-to-door transport for those who are either retired, have some form of disability or who have difficulty using other forms of transport.

Last year Dial A Ride completed just under 50,000 passenger journeys and has around 1,900 registered passengers in the Scarborough area.

Tim Lawson, deputy manager, said: “We have about 12 volunteer drivers at the moment and could really do with another four or five.

“The work is very rewarding and the new drivers would be joining a really good team of men and women.”

Volunteers need to have a full driving licence, preferably clean, and be able to work one day a week from around 8.30am to 5pm.

Mr Lawson added: “Full training will be given, so people just need to feel confident enough to drive a minibus.”
